Friends in Action of the Eastern Panhandle is proud to announce a new partnership with West Virginia Spokes in Jefferson County! Every Friday a Friends in Action volunteer will do a Life Skills presentation for the students of the W.V. SPOKES Program. SPOKES is an academic and job preparation skills program being provided through a contract between the Department of Education, RESA VIII, and the Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR). The program provides classes with intense daily activities that address academic and "soft skills" necessary for adults to pursue and retain gainful employment. The program will allow DHHR clients to be referred to the program and receive services on "any given Monday." The Spokes class is a ten week program consisting of assessment, job readiness, work process skills, computer skills, and Work Keys academics. The program will run continuously throughout the year in comprehensive centers and serve between 12-15 students at any given time. Participants in this program must be referred by the DHHR.
